Our Services A - Z - Medicine for Older People

About the service

We see a broad range of illnesses, particularly stroke, TIA (Transient Ischaemic Attack) heart disease, infections, delirium, dementia and falls. At its core, the department of medicine for older people offers comprehensive assessment which involves close inter-disciplinary working with nurses, therapists, pharmacists, dieticians and many other health professionals. We work closely with GP’s and many other hospital clinical specialists to ensure that older people receive the highest possible levels of care.

As a patient you may be seen by one of our specialist consultants or another specialist member of the medical team. They will discuss your symptoms’ with you in order to get a clearer picture of how best to care for you. You may also be asked to have some tests.

As a teaching hospital, students may also be present and you will be asked if you are happy for their presence.
