Useful Information

VISITING HOURS

Visiting hours are 3-4pm and 6.30-8pm. It is however recognised that as patients are often admitted to the unit as unplanned and emergency admissions this may not always be convenient, and visitors are encouraged to discuss this with the nursing staff if this poses a problem.

PERSONAL BELONGINGS

Patients are encouraged to send home with family where possible any valuables. If this is not possible patients are asked to inform the nursing staff of any valuables in their possession to allow them to send for safekeeping.

RELATIVES ROOM

There is a relatives room available on the Acute Medical Unit to allow any one visiting a patient privacy and a quiet place to spend some time if needed. This room has reclining chairs to allow a period of rest which can be essential during periods of stress. This room is also used to allow private discussions between medical staff and patients or their families.

MEDICINES

The Acute Medical Unit has dedicated ward based pharmacists on hand to allow consultation with both medical staff and patients about their medicines and to quickly obtain any newly prescribed medicines for patients. There is a facility which allows ward based dispensing of some common groups of medicines so that patients who have been discharged home from the ward do not have to wait for their prescriptions.
