The new St Helens Hospital opened in 2008 as the first stage in a £338 million investment, which also included the redevelopment of Whiston Hospital.

The purpose-designed hospital provides​ a full range of outpatient clinics, state-of-the-art diagnostic suites, x-ray, fluoroscopy, ultrasound, DEXA scan, MRI/CT scan, expanded day case surgery suite and up-to-date, ultra clean operating theatres. 

St Helens Hospital also hosts:

  • The Lilac Centre, chemotherapy unit
  • Burney Breast Unit
  • Seddon Rehabilitation Unit, specialising in serious injury/illness rehabilitation
  • Duffy Suite, intermediate care unit
  • Allen Day Unit, older persons outpatient unit

​The hospital was officially opened in 2010 by HRH The Duke of York, KG

Patients are eligible for free NHS treatment at St Helens and Knowsley Teaching hospitals NHS Trust if they are: Ordinarily resident in the UK or: Overseas visitors, but entitled to free NHS services under the National Health Service (Charges to Overseas Visitors) Regulations
