As an organisation providing a service to the public, it is important that our decision-making process is clear and transparent.
You can see how decisions have been reached by the Trust by accessing our Trust Board Papers click here
Our Statutory Duty
We have a statutory duty to involve service users, carers and the public in the work of the organisation under
the Health and Social Care Act 2001.
Patient and Public Involvement
Patient and Public Involvement is the responsibility of every individual working for our Trust. The communities we serve must be central to all we do as a Trust. This is not only in terms of the care we provide to members of these communities, but also in terms of the contribution we can make to those communities as an employer of local people and consumer of local goods and services.
Supporting Patient and Public Involvement - PALS
Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS) is a service provided by NHS organisations to promote and facilitate the involvement of the public in the Trust.

Patient Information
The patient information leaflets we give to patients are an important aspect of a patient's understanding of their condition and the treatment they may receive. We endeavour to make this information as clear and understandable to patients and their relatives or carer as possible. To ensure we meet our own criteria and the needs of patients we have a well-established Lay Reader Group who review the leaflets once they have been developed. This provides us with a patient/public perspective on content and layout, and their comments and suggestions are a source of further information to be considered for inclusion, click here to view patient information leaflets.
Focus groups
The Trust has a number of focus groups that have been developed to involve patients and public in the review and development of services, such as Rheumatology, Diabetes and Cancer Services to name a few. To find out more about these focus groups click here.
Volunteers
Volunteers are a vital part of our organisation and their contribution to the day to day running of the hospital is invaluable. Volunteers work in many areas of the Trust from meeting and greeting to visiting patients and helping staff with non-clinical duties
